Memorial Run

Ryan Purcell was an amazing young man with endless potential, whose life was tragically cut short due to a hit and run.  Ryan was a loyal friend and a loving son, brother, nephew, grandson, uncle and cousin.  He had a unique outlook on life, different from a typical teenager and he saw the world as it could be if people made choices that were right and just.  He believed in others and tried to help them realize and reach their potential in any way he could.  Ryan was determined to succeed in all aspects in his life and worked hard to achieve his goals.

Ryan was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and began his high school career at St. Francis before transferring to West Seneca West his senior year.   He truly enjoyed learning and valued education; this was evident through his outstanding academic record.  Ryan developed a passion for health and fitness as a teenager.  He was active on several soccer teams, but excelled as an athlete on the track.  One of Ryan’s proudest achievements was being a member of the 4 x 400m relay team at West, a team that holds the school record.  Ryan continued his pursuit of higher education beginning his freshman year of college at SUNY Fredonia, where he was also a member of the track team.

Ryan had such a passion for life enjoying each day, always truly happy.  Ryan was compassionate and understanding. When he saw injustices he did what he could to make positive changes.  Though his life was short, he had a tremendous impact on the lives of all those lucky enough to know and love him.  We will honor the life of Ryan Purcell at the 1st Annual Ryan Purcell Memorial Run on Saturday, October 13, 2012 9:30am at the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens.   The post-race party will take place at the Knights of Columbus, 2838 South Park Avenue, Lackawanna, NY 14218 immediately following the race.
